Getting your driver’s license is one of life’s defining moments, and Kia Motors is proud to share this meaningful occasion with worldwide fans. The US state of Nevada has granted Kia Motors an autonomous driving license which will allow Kia to test autonomous driving technologies on public roads. Trial runs of such technologies in real-world conditions will be an important part of Kia’s future plans for autonomous innovations.
“A great deal of research and rigorous product testing is being undertaken in order to make the ‘self-driving car’ a reality,” said Dr. Tae-Won Lim, Vice President of Central Advanced Research and Engineering Institute at Hyundai Motor Group. “Thanks to this license we will be able to accelerate the testing of our new autonomous driving technologies, currently in the early stages of development, with a particular emphasis on our alternative powertrain vehicles.”

Kia advances in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
In the coming years, Kia is planning to introduce a new range of ADAS functions that will transform the driving experience for Kia customers. The new technologies are set to be featured in the latest production of Kia vehicles such as the Sorento and the all-new Optima and Sportage to make driving safer and easier by enabling cars to communicate directly and independently with their surroundings.

In order to achieve a true ‘self-driving car,’ Kia engineers are focusing resources on the research and development of vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication. With fully integrated ADAS technologies, the next-generation smart automobiles will be able to react as human drivers do.
Kia to introduce new innovations at 2016 CES
Kia’s newest autonomous innovations are set to be revealed at the upcoming 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The fresh new range of partially-autonomous ADAS features will aid drivers in preventing potential hazards and obstacles to make driving more pleasurable. Intelligent safety technologies to be exhibited include Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), Highway Autonomous Driving (HAD), Urban Autonomous Driving (UAD), Emergency Stop System (ESS), and Autonomous Valet Parking technologies.
Kia’s exhibit at the show will feature next-generation concepts with never-before-seen movies and interactive displays. Even if you are not at the event, Kia Motors will be bringing you full updates on our social channels. Look for more news on the 2016 CES show staring January 6. Coming soon!
