Kia Motors is back in sunny Los Angeles for the kick off of the much awaited 2016 LA Auto Show! Greeting audiences at the Los Angeles convention center, Kia presents an array of fascinating concept cars and popular iconic models.
We typically associate aerodynamics with flight, but the concept lies close to the heart of automobile design as well. So what exactly is aerodynamics and what does any of this have to do with Kia Motors?
Kia’s first ever eco-friendly vehicle was the Kia Besta EV. While the model was not developed for commercial markets, the Besta was used for live broadcasting during the 1986 Asian Games and 1988 Seoul Olympics. The Kia Sportage EV succeeded the Besta in 1999. The knowledge behind the development of these two models came to serve as the basis for all other electric models to follow.

“Kia debuted two new hybrids at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show, the Niro and the plug-in Optima hybrid. They’re two of the four alt-powertrains Kia promised to have in place by this year—the other two are the Soul EV and standard Optima hybrid—with about a half dozen more on the way, debuting by 2020. We sat down with Michael Sprague, COO for Kia Motors America, and Orth Hedrick, the automaker’s vice president of product planning, to talk about how Kia sees its future in EVs, hybrids, and other alternative powertrains.”
The 2016 Chicago Auto Show is in full swing and Kia’s impressive 21,000 square-foot exhibit is now on display in the Windy City.
