The Geneva International Motor Show is one of the most renowned events in the automobile industry. Year after year, automakers gather in Switzerland to present their best and brightest as they compete for the spotlight, and this year is no different.
At this year’s 87th Geneva Motor Show, Kia presented a mouth-watering smorgasbord of vehicles that stole the attention of event spectators. Leading the way are two of the brand’s currently most hyped vehicles making their debuts in Europe. Additionally, Kia showcased its commitment to ensuring a sustainable future with the reveal of two new eco-friendly plug-in hybrid models.
Popular to Boot
Kia greeted spectators in Geneva with four new models, each shining in their own orb of beauty and accomplishment. The third generation iteration of the Kia Picanto, one of the brand’s most popular models, finally made its overseas debut at the Swiss show. Previously only seen in renderings and photos, viewing the new and improved city car in person was a highlight for many. Larger, bolder and more capable than its predecessor, Picanto will be a fierce competitor in its segment when it hits the market later in the year.
The Kia Stinger, familiar to the world’s auto enthusiasts after its groundbreaking global debut at NAIAS, shared center stage at our booth, tantalizing the crowd with its head-turning style and confidence. Fitted with European specifications to suit the show’s main audience, Kia’s fastback struck an indelible impression among spectators, consolidating its place as one of the most talked about models in the auto industry.
A Green Scene
Furthering our mission to have 14 green cars on the market by 2020, Kia premiered two new eco-friendly vehicles in Geneva.
The Niro Plug-in Hybrid, a plug-in counterpart of our popular hybrid utility vehicle (HUV), combines the practical functions of a crossover with ultra-competitive fuel efficiency. With even lower emissions than the Niro hybrid, the plug-in hybrid model is in tune with current market trends as both a hybrid car and a crossover SUV.
The Optima Sportswagon family now features a plug-in hybrid model in addition to its conventional and hybrid powertrain siblings. Optima Sportswagon Plug-in Hybrid caters exclusively to European consumers with its much loved tourer design coupled with eco efficiency. Sophisticated, functional and now greener than ever, the new plug-in version of the Sportswagon is sure to be a popular choice in the Europe region.
The Geneva Motor Show will be open to the public until the 19th of March and Kia has an exciting variety of new revealed models and steady sellers on display. Stay tuned as Kia continues to march forward!
