Jun Park Tiburon Adventures – Chapter 2: First Mod, First Doubt

KDMKing

Jun Park stood in front of his car, arms crossed.

Same parking lot.

Same Tiburon.

But tonight felt different.

Because now—

He had a plan.

The box sat on the ground beside him.

Cold Air Intake.

Nothing crazy. Nothing flashy.

But to Jun… it might as well have been a turbo kit.

He crouched down, running his hand along the polished piping.

“This is it,” he muttered. “First step.”

The install didn’t go smoothly.

Of course it didn’t.

A bolt stripped.

A clamp wouldn’t sit right.

And at one point, Jun just sat on the garage floor, staring at the engine bay like it had personally betrayed him.

“Why does this look so easy on YouTube…”

He wiped his hands on a rag, frustrated.

For a moment—

That old feeling crept back in.

Maybe I’m not built for this.
Maybe they were just being nice.

Jun leaned back against the wall, exhaling.

Silence filled the garage.

Then—

He stood back up.

“No. We finish this.”

An hour later…

The intake sat in place.

Not perfect.

But installed.

Jun stared at it like it was a trophy.

“Alright…”

He slid into the driver’s seat and turned the key.

The engine turned over.

Then—

A deeper sound.

A subtle, aggressive inhale.

Not loud.

But different.

Jun’s eyes widened slightly.

“…Okay.”

That night, he pulled into the meet again.

Same spot.

Same underpass glow.

But this time—

He didn’t hesitate as long.

Jun stepped out.

Closed the door.

And for the first time—

Didn’t immediately look around for reactions.

A couple guys from last time noticed him.

“Yo—it’s Tiburon guy.”

Jun smirked slightly.

Better than “Hyundai guy.”

They walked over.

One of them crouched near the front of the car.

“Wait… you changed something.”

Jun tried to stay casual.

“Yeah. Intake.”

A pause.

Then—

A nod.

“Nice.”

Another guy leaned in.

“Start it.”

Jun got back in, turned the key.

The engine came alive again—this time with that sharper, more defined tone.

Heads turned.

Not all.

But some.

And that was enough.

“Okay, I hear it,” one guy said. “That’s clean.”

“Simple, but clean,” another added.

Jun stepped back out.

Trying not to smile too much.

Trying not to show how much that meant.

Then came the question.

Same one as before.

But different now.

“So… what’s next?”

Jun looked at his car.

Then back at them.

This time—

No hesitation.

“Coilovers,” he said.
“Then maybe wheels.”
“…then boost.”

The guy from last time—the one who said respect—nodded again.

“Good path.”

Later that night, Jun sat on the hood of his Tiburon.

Looking out at the meet.

Watching other cars.

Listening.

Learning.

He realized something.

Last time, he came here hoping to be accepted.

This time—

He came here to build.

Jun glanced back at his engine bay.

At the small change that felt so big.

He smiled to himself.

“Yeah…”

Then quietly—

“Now we’re getting somewhere.”
